Here's something that I think is just plain silly (it's not disapproval, more disdain at the silliness): The "home-y" type familiarity that people try to convey when introducing someone on a TV gameshow or in some company brochure or something: "Jim is married to Caroline" as if there is only one person called Caroline in the whole world. Why not say: "Jim's wife is called Caroline" ? Is this just me, or do other people get cross at this ?
(Maybe it's just me being at a 'difficult age'. I have plenty more where that came from, but I will spare you. Thank you all for granting me this Therapeutic Moment.)
