Chicago is absolutely world famous for it's hot dogs (pizza, too). Even Frank Sinatra mentioned "a Flukey's hot dog, Chicago is" in the My Kind of Town, Chicago is song to a refence to a famous hot dog stand that has been in business since 1927.

I think it was the food network who sometimes shows the program on regional food. Hot dogs were featured. Places like Nathan's in NYC, Gold Coast Dogs in Chicago, and other regional favorites were featured. Nowhere was there any mention of a Montral steamie.

For those who don't know, a true Chicago styule hot dog is a kosher dog on a steamed poppy seed bun. "With everything" means bright yellow mustard, neon green sweet pickle relish, finely chopped onions, kosher pickle, tomatoes, celery salt, and optional hot sport peppers. If you want ketchup you might be asked to leave the place or at the very least, ridiculed. This is taken so seriously that there is a correct order of application for the condiments.

Hot dog stands in Chicago and it's suburbs are way more popular than fast food chains. These places are constantly getting press in the newspapers for who is rated number one. Many books have been written on the topic.
