Frank, I agree Derroll was a unique performer. It was listening to recordings of his, and Lunsford and Virgil Anderson, that brought me to a realisation of what a wonderful instrument the banjo can be for solo accompaniment - often delightfully delicate and gentle. To that point, I had associated it more with old-time stringbands and knees-up bluegrass styles. It is a great pity that not much of his work is available. The same applies to Lunsford - the Smithsonian CD is marvellous, but surely much, much more could be issued on CD.
