The Rustling of Speckles, the Celebrity Hen

Late in the evenin' on William's Highway
For a news-paper he went, and he stopped at Old Ray's
In the magazine rack, by surprise he was stricken
When he saw roosting there, a beautiful chicken

He thought she was handsome, he thought she was fine
"O! Rara avis! Would that you were mine!"
She was bound to be roadkill, or come to some harm
So he took her back home, tucked under his arm.
