Sad Tale of the Bipolar Rooster

Oh, Jekyll's my name, I'm a rooster
And it's strange is the tale I will tell!
I was madly in love with young Speckles
A hen from the south end of hell.
I courted her slowly and quickly
But she badgered my soul 'til I cried
She was bitchy and sour and wicked
And she brought out my Hyde from inside.

Now my Hyde is a strange alter-ego
He is foaming and savage and cruel
While my true self is loving and thoughtful
And a bit of a panderin' fool.
I was startled and angry and panicked
When that hen was purloined from her shelf!
But rather than attack Mister Nickles
I hid in a tree, by myself.

I was sure if I let out my anger
I would sure meet an untimely end,
I'd become a most rabid attacker
And end up imprisoned, my friend.
That's not how I wanted to end, sir
So I kept Hyde hidden deep in me head,
I had nothing to hide sir, but Hyde, sir, itself
So I slept with a barn owl instead.
