I've had a lot of success with my Fostex VF08. I got it about 1 1/2 years ago and I'm always using it. It's a digital 8 track recorder with 2 input jacks which can handle either mic plugins or typical input plugins. Also, it's less expensive than others that I've seen that promised the same specifications. It's great because I can take it anywhere and lay some tracks, then transfer the files to my PC and mix them further. The sound quality is excellent.
I'd gotten mine from a music store through ebay. They tend to pop up there every now and then.
