Interesting analogy. I'd say it's the other way around; Microsoft is like America. If you do everything exactly their way and don't ask any questions you'll probably be adequately happy as long as you only want to do what they have in mind.

It isn't that America and Microsoft are against quality, there is quite a bit of that thrown in, it's just that control is the main thing. You can work on quality as long as you have control. Lose control and you may find yourself dancing to another's tune.

What Microsoft and America tend to overlook is that the world is full of wonderful tunes many of which are quite danceable.
