This song is usually said to be traditional but, according to The A to Z of Scottish Places, "the famous song the Northern Lights of Aberdeen was penned by a London woman who had never visited the place."

I have, however, been unable to find any other similar reference or a name of such a London woman. Can anyone shed any light on this?
