You know, of course, that you can do serious damage to a dog, yanking one off another that way? At least if they were engaged in promiscuous behavior. You just have to wait for them to cool down (hence the hose). You're lucky you didn't get some salient portion of your anatomy bitten off for your troubles.
Get thee away from the dog. England just might be far enough.
