Perhaps Peter, the power brokers in the US have become so cynical with regard to the electorate, that the only thing they believe is required of their political figureheads is that they be somewhat photogenic. Maybe that's why they seem to be positively disposed to movie actors, at least some actors can ad lib as well as memorize their lines.
