I seem to recall that in the British Boer War version of the song, the lines
" 'Tis the tramp of soldiers true In their uniforms of blue. I must say good-bye to you, Dolly Gray..."
are replaced by :
" 'Tis the tramp of soldiers' feet In their uniforms so neat, So good-bye until we meet, Dolly Grey..."
