Rick, I could deal with the mandolin until the last surgery I had in '97 when they took another 1/4 inch off the end. Even the lap/mountain dulcimer gives me problems. A "mandolin type instrument with a slightly longer scale than a mandola scale instrument" strung with nylon strings sounds interesting.
