Art is on the "cutting edge" here. The thing he described is a variant of an older virus so new that Norton updated signatures for this new version only within the last day or two. His AV detected it as a "generic form of ..." sort of thing, but for all previous versions, and probably for this one too, you need to do a manual regedit to get it cleaned up completely.

It is considered a "low hazard" thing, but we appreciate his care in trying to avoid sending it on. Descriptions of prior versions don't indicate it's terribly "contagious," but it may attempt to send his personal data to "somebody." For that reason, even connecting to receive email may put Art at risk, so it's hoped he'll be careful and get it cleaned ASAP.
