Don't worry too much about the sleeping. It will sort itself out. You will do fine even on short sleep, and you WILL sleep when you REALLY need to, and when you can. Do clear the decks for the days after surgery as much as you can, because you will need to rest and reboot. On surgery day, and the next day, if they tell you to go home, GO, unless there is any reason not to feel peaceful that he is in good hands. He'll need you well-rested once he's awake enough to be pissed off at the pain and the inactivity.
