We had lunch with a friend today and, in the course of the conversation it came up that her father came from Sunderland. Then I opened this thread and found Sunderland mentioned in the first post. Inquiring minds want to know: What's wrong with Sunderland? Should we shun our friend even though her dad's been dead for years and we're thousands of miles away? Certainly wouldn't want to be caught associating with the wrong types, y'know. It'll hurt though - she's been my wife's best friend for years and is dearly loved by both of us.
