In case you come back for an answer, the kestrel was a hawk which Jen wrote into a collective fiction thread we had here. But she had her main character set it (the pet kestrel) alight (meaning, "put it down somewhere") which everyone else jumped on for setting the poor bird aflame. She's never lived it down!
