I think the good friar has given up on saving my soul, and the Christian Coalition would as soon see me dead (and my wife intimated the same thing this afternoon, but she'll resist the temptation to hasten my departure, I think...). As someone who follows his doctor's strict orders never to drink by never drinking more than a pint or two, I can't face the new millenium sloshed. Besides, it really doesn't start for another 15 months, anyway: 2000 is simply the last year in the 20th century. When it gets close to New Year's Eve 2000 I think I'll consult the Weekly News of the World to find out where the safe places are (where Elvis, Princess Diana, John Kennedy, and the world's biggest baby will be when the clock turns for good: them's people what's bound to be in the right place--probably boarding the same space ship that picked up the Heaven's Gate folks). --seed
