This is one that I knew before I ever got into folk hymns. Virgil Thomson did an arrangement in the 1930's that may have helped with its spread. He also used it in the film score for The River. There are many, many more as you can see if you search the first line in Google. Did your church use "My Shepherd Will Supply My Need" or other words? I suspect it is now in a lot of hymnals. The same basic tune is in the Sacred Harp with the title of Irwinton & different words. This was actually in the earliest edition of Sacred Harp, taken out & put back in with the 1991 edition. I wish we used the "My Shepherd" words.
