Now personally, I would have never done cords on the City of New Orleans. The standards were a bit higher so at the very minimum, I'd go for wool blend slacks and a herringbone sports coat with elbow patches. Of course if you were on the NYC 20th Century or PRR Broadway Limiteds...well, I think dinner jackets were common in the dining and smoking cars.......never cords.
