Ellen - I'd guess you know, but are you aware of the thread division and last post first options?

On the main page, "Click on the linked "Messages" numbers to view the thread split into pages (click "d" for chronologically descending)."

The first option breaks the thread up into 50 post pages, much more easy to handle.
