It's not a new thing.... I spent several years poring over old church records and came up with some doozies from around 1780 - 1880.....

Bear in mind that these are all genuine, baptism names from an English county that had very few, if any, immigrants. Most of the surnames are fairly common to the area and many of the Christian names are definately Old Testament!

Eli Pester and his wife Hester
Speaze Tizzard (male)
Tirzah Fever
Love Swaffield
Erasmus Cox (male)
Christian Gibbons (male)
Hipolett Mockett
Noah Gallop
Francis Goforth - Vicar of Whitchurch Canonicorum
Arabella Gerina Bachatina Megal Govin
Parthena Staple
Maudlin Dampney
Amaziah Payne and his sister Jane
Adoniza Zeally (male)
Sunecai Genteelei (female and baptised into the Church of England)
Unity Abbot
Mercy Buddle
Penninah Charity Scard
Apsalome Whittle Wills
and a whole family who went through the OT like a plague of locusts.... Tabitha, Kesia, Bathsheba (long before Thomas Hardy used it), Emanuel (sic) Barzilla, Obedia and Zibich Hodder.

My own family includes several John Thomas', one family with two sons called John (11 years between them and no evidence that either died at an early age), Minnie May Stone Pitcher, Job James Priddeth Equeall, Phyllis Honeybun and a Mr A Deadman.
