God, I fantasise about this all the time, and my answer changes every other week... Right now, I'd probably want to go back (with video and audio recording devices) to the third century, to wander around what is now southwestern China. Of course, I'd probably be killed on sight by the locals, or die of gangrene after stubbing my toe, but it'd be worth it. :)
