A clout yed around here is a cloth head. Ie someone a bit wooly aboutthe brain. Clout heads on the other hand are the nails used for fastening floorboards to joists!

And I am in the May blossom faction - I always understood it to be May Blossoms which, incidentaly, can be either hawthorn or elder in these parts.

I wonder if the old Roman Catholic practice of crowning the Statue of Mary with may blossoms stems from an earlier pagan ritual?
