Thread Name: Almanac Singers: Side By Side?
Subject: Almanac Singers: Side By Side?
Naxos has come out with an album of the Almanac Singers material from 1941-42, full of the classics (Reuben James, etc.).

One song, "Side By Side", is sung with a deliberately Russian accompaniment (about a bully defeated by friends who stand side by side). I suspect that it is a translation of a Russian song -- solidarity with our gallant Russian allies.

Can anyone fill me in whether or not this suspicion is true? And what is the original song?

(This is not the RAF Side by Side song, nor the pop tune Side by Side ("Oh we ain't got a barrel of money") either).

yours,

Peter T.
