I hope that this does not give great offence to my fellow Catters. As an elderly news hack I have always felt great admiration for those who have sufficient courage to blow the whistle when they feel that things are going out of control. So this tribute is for whatever member of the US armed forces who had the courage to release those horrific pictures of the torture of Iraqi prisoners. He or she deserves our recognition for their humanity and sense of compassion. The iconic photograph of the hooded prisoner with electrodes attached demands a song. This is for the unknown soldier and is sung to the air of Dixie. I have played somewhat fast and loose with the air and metre in order to get the message across. If you are from the US, please understand that there is no offence intended...... M
Song for the Unknow Soldier
I wish I was in the land of cotton The deeds I've done unseen, forgotten. Look Away Please Look Away Look Away Dixieland.
For in Dixieland where I was born my parents taught me right from wrong. So look Away Look Away Please Look Away Dixieland
I wish I were in Dixie Away Away. Far from this cruel senseless slaughter Murder, rape, the hate, the torture
I joined to fight for right and truth Not torture naked men in hoods Please Look Away Look Away Please Look Away Dixieland.
Musical break
I wish I was in Dixie Away Away. Will even Jesus understand The shame we've brought to Dixie.
I wish I was in the land of cotton. I wish my life unseen, forgotten Look Away Please Look Away Look Away Dixieland.
