And as to TIAs being related to alcohol and/or drug abuse, I've had two of 'em, and I've never taken drugs (other than a VERY few prescribed ones), and I'm a very moderate alcohol user. I have a mildly elevated cholesterol level.
I'm on "oral medication" for it, which is to say Plavix, a blood thinner, plus one baby aspirin a day. Sinister!!!!
The difference between a TIA and a stroke is that, if it clears up quickly by itself, it's a TIA. If it doesn't clear up, but sticks around, it's a stroke.
