Thanks, Greg, if I reach the sea (I'm in Berkshire) then I know I'm in trouble! If I go home via a series of pubs will Herself accept it's essential orienteering? Most of the woods I go through have fairly static streams/ditches. I haven't got lost yet as all the paths lead somewhere eventually , I think a compass would be more reliable!
