Thread Name: Origins: Hush little baby, don't say a word
Subject: RE: Lyr Req: Hush little baby, don't say a word
Hi Laura,

here´s one of the popular versions of this song. The last verse I wrote myself in 1998 just to add something that fits to the behaviour of people just like me ;(

By the way - actually these words are took from an american version of the song, you´ll find here some scottish-like phrases/words just like tae (=to). Don´t mind.

Hush Little Baby
(An Anglo-American lullaby, dating back to the early American frontier days.
Note: Daddy´s may be substituted with Mammy´s in the song; it all depends on who´s going to pay up for the entire menagerie purchased.)

Hush, little baby, don´t say a word
Daddy´s goin´ tae buy ye a mockin´ bird
If that mockin´ bird don´t sing
Daddy´s goin´ tae buy ye a diamond ring

If that diamond ring turns brass
Daddy´s goin´ tae buy ye a lookin´ glass
If that lookin´ glass gets broke
Daddy´s goin´ tae buy ye a billy goat

If that billy goat won´t pull
Daddy´ s goin´ tae buy ye a cart and bull
If that cart and bull turn over
Daddy´s goin´ tae buy ye a dog named Rover

If that dog named Rover don´t bark
Daddy´s goin´ tae buy ye a horse and cart
If that horse and cart fall down
Ye´ re still the sweetest little girl (boy) in town

Hush, little baby, stop yer cries
Daddy´ s goin´ tae buy ye a paradies
A paradies fu´ o´ miracles
Marvelous toys and sweet candies
