Subject: Lyr Add: THE RIVERS OF VIRGINIA
Here's Virginia's entry:
THE RIVERS OF VIRGINIA
We crossed the Cowpasture, we forded Rivanna,
We swam the Potomac, we followed the Anna,
The Holston runs rusty, the Nottoway clear,
But down by James River I courted my dear.
The sweet Shenandoah runs glossy and gliding,
The crooked Pamunkey runs weaving and winding,
The slow Rappahannock it courses the plain,
But I never will walk by James River again.
The girls on New River, they're plump and they're pretty,
The Staunton and Roanoke have many a beauty,
Down by the Maury there's girls by the score,
But I never will walk by James River no more.
She hugged me and kissed me and called me her dandy,
The Jackson is muddy, the York River's sandy,
I hugged her and kissed her and called her my own,
But down by James River she left me alone.
