"Joan" is Joan Gallimore who is a regular attendee at festivals and clubs including The Wooden Horse at Rainford, Maghull folk club and the Railway at Heatley.

The song was recorded by Joan on the first "Lancashire Voices" cassette organised by Derek Gifford and Chris Harvey of Cock Robin Music in Croston, Lancashire as part of an ongoing project to record people who wouldn't normally make a CD or tape. These recordings are archived - I think - in Central Lancashire library athough Derek or Chris can tell you better what they do with them.

Joan won the inaugural Fred Jordan memorial traditional singers' trophy last year at Saltburn (?).
She's always telling us tales of her days gone by and you can never get a word in. She's a diamond!
