While it is entirely possible that you have in New York State a "naturalised" (English spelling) community of Haggises ("Haggi" is false etymology) which may have at some point escaped from captivity and bred successfully, I am still firm in my belief that this is a species only recently introduced; your remarks about their migratory behaviour might tend to confirm that. On the other hand, the arboreal habits you describe (particularly with reference to the Maple) are more characteristic of the "mock" haggis I mentioned earlier; the true haggis (Gaelic,"Taigeis") is better adapted to a more-or-less treeless habitat.Malcolm
