On my first trip to New York City, to Greenwich Village, and to a coffee house I first heard Dave Van Ronk. Before I left town I had one of his albums and have purchased more over the years, the latest being the Sunday Street CD. Even today he is one of my favorite singers and guitarists. From what I have read and heard, Van Ronk was also an avid supporter of others trying to make an impression in the world of folk music. I have encountered some folk in music who seemed on a personal quest for glory. From what I have heard of Van Ronk he was at the opposite end of that spectrum. However, he is certainly deserving of respect and honor and it is nice to see this type of recognition.
