I met a physicist today and had a most interesting conversation with him. His father was in the diplomatic service so the family lived in many different places- Germany, France, Norway, more- so until recently when his seventh-year sabbatical has come up he has usually gone to Europe for the year.

But lately he has gone to Hawaii instead, to the telescope station atop an extinct volcano.

I learned a lot, mostly because I knew so little.
