Thread Name: Good songs gone bad
Subject: Good songs gone bad
I saw the thread about the worst songs ever, and it got me to thinking about songs I liked until something happened to sour me on them. One was a beautiful rendition of The Banks of the Lee (or was it The Banks of the Bann) done by Silly Wizard on Kiss the Tears away. One of my favorite albums, and one of my favorite tracks on that album, it refers to "Mary, fond Mary" (lilted as only Andy M. can do it). The song would never fail to unman me. Until I met my own Mary and got a wee crush on her, only to have her fall for a friend of mine. Couldn't listen to that song again for like 4 years without getting really pissed.

And lately, I have been enjoying a compilation CD called Common Ground-Voices of Modern Irish Music. There is a track on it called Help Me to Believe, by Paul Brady who has long been a favorite of mine. And it just so happens that his voice sounds unpleasantly like the voice of a person with whom I had a very unpleasant run-in recently. Now I can't even listen to that song. I have to skip it entirely when I listen to that cd.

Any similar experiences?
