Sonnet 26/03/04                     DCCCXCIX

I see within your eyes another world
Where hope is measured by how much you smile.
You glance at me, and all of soul is curled
Around your pen: Can my verse find a style
To win your favor? Should I dream of lips
That whisper words of hope, or even pray
For chance that I might kiss? My desire slips
Into all I dream, and all that I say.
I cannot pen control: It dashes on
To speak on page of things I have no right
To ask, or dream. How can I live upon
My hopes, when dream is begging for heart's sight?
I should not think to such a fool remain:
In truth, I cannot heart's desire obtain.
