Thread Name: Woody Guthrie Birthday Bash IV
Subject: RE: Woody Guthrie Birthday Bash IV
I don't think that questioning why someone, in this case Lorcan, is not included is off topic. The bash should be about activism and "the people" I saw Bernadette McAlicky say at a speech if you want to know about what the important civil rights questions in America are, ask him, and pointed at Otway. Like Woody Guthrie's songs, Otway's songs ring true because he was there, side by side with the people who society has no time for. He would bring back songs from being on the road with real people like Woody and not from TV or the movies. I get it when he says he does not have time or money for folk clubs. He is what a folk musician is, the voice of the people because he shares their fate and in America today, the people are not doing very well. Instead of Lorcan meeting the folk clubs half way, they could meet him so that he songs can be heard. I should add that, in addition to Lorcan, musicians should not be excluded or not heard because they do not have time for all of a club's activities and socializing.
