I suppose its all a question of your vintage. I first heard the Beatles when one night I was standing outside St Georges Hall in St Helens. Me and my cousin were both 12, and neither of us would have dreamed of going in - we hadn't the half crown entrance and anyway the place had a reputation for fighting.

I said theyre good - very surprised, as I'd never heard them before and I wasn't local - I was in St helens for my summer holidays - or it could have been Easter.

Cousin Bernard said oh yes The Beatles - they're a very popular local group. Later that year they appeared on Bill Grundy's teatime TV programme for the first time, I don't think they had a recording contract at this point. I remember being intrigued by the unquiffed hair - visually that was a shock at the time.

To me it seemed a bit weird seeing Danni looking so much like George, but not sounding at all Liverpool.

When Ringo came on with an immediately recognisable Scouse/merseybeat accent. I thought - oh yeh that's what its all about!

Thats what I call folk music!
