You may be wandering how our village of Barton-Le-Clay came about

In ancient times when beer was invented, the good folk of this village decided to build a counter where all could come and drink

It was a great success and the village leader, Mr Pub was pleased

Unfortunately neighbouring tribes were jealous and took to stealing the serving counter at any opportunity and destroying it

Mr Pub came up with the idea to build a counter so heavy that it could not be taken

As metal was expensive, clay was chosen to form the new bar

One ton was deemed heavy enough

Soon all the local tribes flocked to get drunk in
