The version sung by The Portsmouth Shanty Men is actually different from the words Ian Woods wrote and are written by Ken Stephens of Southampton. As I understand it Ian's version was the first and Ken wrote a seperate set of words but the same tune and chorus are used for both. As for Johnny and Jim, I'm not sure whether either of them sing either version, I am sure however that Johnny does not sing Ken's version other than when singing with me and doing the chorus.
