Thread Name: BS: Libraries under siege
Subject: RE: BS: Libraries under siege
The people who want to censor the libraries are the same people who regard the Taliban as the personification of Evil, having no notion, of course, that they have the same mind-set.

Regarding the Patriot Act (now there's a misnomer if there ever was one!!), this is the response of the Seattle Public Library:
The Seattle Public Library Confidentiality Policy
The purpose of the Confidentiality Policy is to ensure the confidentiality of borrower records at The Seattle Public Library. Staff members and volunteers may not convey information about borrower records, including loan transactions, requests for information or materials and online sites accessed, to individuals or to any private or public agency without an order from a court of competent jurisdiction, or as otherwise required by law.

Minimum records kept
The Seattle Public Library keeps the minimum number of records necessary for maintaining operations. For example, when a customer logs off a Library computer, no information is retained that identifies the customer to the computer session. Also, when a customer returns materials to the Library, information about what was checked out is automatically deleted after four days, unless the customer has fines.
"Resistence is futile!!" Oh, yeah?
