Wow! Like most of you I started from there. In the '50's I found myself faced with a choice of pop music, which was rapidly becoming crap, and jazz, which wasn't.
Humph led to Chris Barber led to Lonnie led to Leadbelly, Woody and Pete Seeger. Various by-roads taken along the way, but I still get to see Chris whenever he is passing.
I always used Midnight Special, Goodnight Irene and a rather odd version of Wabash Cannonball in my singing days, even after I discovered English folk-music.
The legend will live on!
