There is an informal acoustic evening every Monday in the "Globe", High Street West (the A57), Glossop, about 12 miles from Sheffield over the Snake Pass.

There are usually a dozen or more assorted fiddle, accordion, guitar, mandolin and banjo players. The tune list includes various french, canadian, scandinavian and celtic instrumental tunes, plus songs from Bob Dylan, Johnny Cash, Steve Earle etc.

The procedure for attending is simple. Arrive with an instrument (any time after 8:30 pm), find a seat and join in.

Until a couple of months ago, the pub also had an amplified jam session every Thursday evening, at which guests were welcome. These have been discontinued, for the time being at least, as the resident artistes (Robin Sunflower, Dave Greene) are away. You might contact the landlord (Ron Brookes) or the resident event organiser (Rae Leeson) to find out more about Thursday and weekend events.

For more details, see the pub's web sites : The Globe or Globe Music
