Oh my god I cannot believe how this thread has escalated and turned nasty. Please take this discussion of copying CD's to a different thread. I hate to think that this posting started another Mudcat argument. So as not to inflame things more I will not post a list of what got stolen, although I appreciate the offers to help. Anyway now that I've taken stock: some of the CDs(thankfully) were backup copies, and I had transfered a number of my favorite songs onto my hard drive.   I've narrowed down the list of CD's I don't want to live without and will replace them gradually. One good thing is that I still have the liner notes and lyric sheets of most of them, since they were all in the CD holder.

For the record - I have a CD out and if somebody bought one and then lost it I would not object under those circumstances to their friend making a copy and replacing it. That is a little different than just wholesale making copies of CD's and handing them out.
