Rereading this reminded me about the "character flaws" discussions we used to have -- Rick had this theory -- and he had examples to prove it -- that one recurring character flaw among some of his men heroes (e.g. Woody Guthrie, but he had others I can't recall) was their tendency to piss in the middle of living rooms -- like at parties -- for the hell of it. Just the sort of topic that he would bring up in the middle of wrestling with chord progressions.
