This reminds me of a scene in the Hitchhikers Guide to the Galaxy. Ford Prefect has just told the barman that the world is about to end:

Barman: I thought that if the world was going to end we were meant to lie down or put a paper bag over our head or something.

Ford: If you like, yes.

Barman: Will that help?

Ford: No.
