theres not much doubt - it is rubbish. but its more unpredictabale than orchestrated chat shows like Springer. and to be honest - it plays fairer than Springer, because we get a chance to make a star out of some people who are not particularly talented. It doesn't just hold people up to ridicule for half an hour and then chuck them back onto the streets. the personalities do get a chance and time to strut their stuff.

Judging from the American programmes we see over here, i don't think you would like it. Its a bit like you don't get cricket cos it lasts four days and sometimes its a draw. the winner of this show is not necessarily the one with the most votes. the prize is that they get a shot at being a media celebrity with a licence to print their own money - and that emerges in the months after the show.

the game plans of the various contestants are discussed widely and deliberated over by experts and supporters. some try to maximise their impact by being feisty and occasionally downright unpleasant, some preen themselves and try to be Mr Nice guy who looks nice. they've all got strategies.

Anyway at least people don't fight over it like they do football.
