Nerd, you're right--and that's why I posted that on the end--because I felt they didn't think through the process when they made that suggestion. You've spelled out the reasons why it is a very low probability that anyone would even bother trying to appropriate ancient music and claim royalties. I'm sure anyone would have to show a track record of work in the field and working notes and published works and such to be in a position to sue--otherwise I'd expect it to be thrown out of court as frivolous.

Too bad they didn't or couldn't release the rest of the CDs, though. That does seem a waste, and does seem something they could reach an agreement about without spending another £500,000. And this kind of publicity is better than money could buy, isn't it?
