I hadn't heard about the eye-patches!
I must admit I thought the gas-mask ruse was a good one. I rather like that sort of terrace humour. No malice, just teasing each other.
For the benefit of those who haven't a clue what we're talking about,
Middlesbrough, being famous for its' heavy industry and, in particular, the large chemical industries clearly visible as you near the town, has a reputation for having a polluted atmosphere to the extent that those of us residing in the region have come to be known as "smoggies" to our near neighbours.
When visiting Newcastle fans planned to arrive wearing gas masks the authorities stepped in and spoilt their fun.
I'll keep an eye out for the patches tomorrow! (sorry)
