Continuing the drift - the song 'Dear Tom This Brown Jug' did, indeed.like many another song, pass through the theatre, but the version in 'The Poor Soldier' was, it would seem, slightly adapted for the play. The 'DearTom' song was written by Francis Fawkes in 1761 (said to be a translation from an Italian original) and is generally believed to have inspired the craze for Toby Philpot jugs.
