Just a small correction I offer. The Mike Fink song didn't have the words "women: and "bold" in it. 'Twent like dis:

Girls run and hide,/ and brave men shiver;/ I'm Mike Fink,/ King of the River!

I, too, was a Davy Crockett--how shall I put it?--aficionado! Well, I was a lunatic. I was about seven or eight when the rage spread. I figured at the end that Davy wiped out the entire Mexican army. Well, I wanted to figure that, but part of me knew he died, Davy did. By the way, his motto was more accurately as follows:

<< Be always sure you're right, then go ahead. >>

I have adopted it as one of my own, along with Archimedes's << Do not disturb my circles. >>

I've been trying to find the complete lyrics to Texas John Slaughter and Elfego "El Gato" Baca, by the way.

Here's a song I ain't seen mentioned yet---

Who is that tall dark stranger there?/ Maverick is the name./ Ridin' the trail to who knows where,/ Luck is his companion, gamblin'is his game./

Smooth as the barrel of a gun--/ Maverick is the name./ Wild as the wind in Oregon/ Whipping down a canyon,/ Easier to tame./

Riverboat ring your bell--/ Fare thee well, Annabelle,/ Luck is the lady that he loves the best--/ Natchez to New Orleans/ Livin' off Jacks and Queens,/ Maverick is the Legend of the West!/

And on that note, I close and depart---Xristos
